Notworking

Filed under: networking — Derek Sorensen @ 1:21 pm

How many social networking sites are you signed up to? There’s plenty to choose from. Facebook, Linkedin, Xing, FastPitch, Business Scene, 3Cs, TEN, Viadeo, 6nergies, Hyves, Babbello, Bebo, Biznik, Friendster, Zoominfo, Crickem, Doostang, Sisterwoman, MySpace, Network2Connect, Orkut, Rezonance, Ryze, Soflow, Startupnation, YSN, iRamblas, 60SecondsNetworking, Agloco, Join2Grow, Vshake, GoingOn, Apura, Vostu, Ted, MyBlogLog, Ecademy, First Monday … and that’s not even an exclusive list.

Several self-employed people of my acquaintance are regular contributors to several SNAs - apparently they use them for “marketing”. But with a list of sites that long, how do you manage to keep up with them all? And more importantly, how do you find the time to do your job - you know, that for which you are paid, and which keeps a roof over your head and your children fed and clothed?

But there is a solution. Notworking is a small windows application which sits quietly on the desktop and keeps track of how much time you fritter away “Networking”, and how much money you could have earned if you weren’t wasting time chatting to other notworkers. Download and run it today - you’ll be amazed at the difference it makes.

  1. I’m surprised LinkedIn or somesuch hasn’t bought this app to keep it off the market. Wonderful.

  4. Hi edo,

Glad you like it. You can right click on the app and choose “settings” and you can set whatever currency you like.

  6. Hi Derek,
It does not work at start up. Just shows a Pound sign and “Rate is n” , which probably means “Rate is not valid”.
I tried to get it working by right clicking but could not make changes to Euro. I even tried copy/paste a euro sign from a Word document in the field but this did not work either.
Any idea what could be the problem? Thanks.

  7. Hi edo,

It works fine here (not saying you aren’t experiencing a problem, just that I can’t duplicate it). I got the Euro Sumbol (€) by typing AltGr-4 but that’s for a UK keyboard - you can find the correct code for your keyboard on Microsoft’s FAQ page all about the Euro, here although I’d hazard a guess at AltGr-e.

    Hope this helps.

  8. Hi Derek,
Here the Euro sign works with AltGr 5.
Meanwhile I discovered the problem. I had to change the hourly rate to 0 before it started functioning. After that I could change it back to the required amount. The clock is ticking now ;-)
Thanks again for this very helpfull program.

  9. Hi edo,

I finally worked out what was wrong. When you enter a non-numeric value for the amount, it will change the “You could have earned” value to “Rate is not valid”. It’s not related to the currency symbol, where anything at all is allowed.

I’ll have a think about how better to validate the rate field, and thanks for finding the bug!

  10. Hi,

I am a student in a competitive high school program in the U.S. I have to tell you that this program has really increased my productivity and I am grateful that Mr. Sorensen came up with the idea to create it. I am spending much more time working and much less time on social networking sites like myspace and facebook.

    Thank You Mr. Sorensen!!!

  11. Thanx for the Notworking tool. If only it could start ticking on its own(without the needed to start it manually) when a website is opened. But thanx anyways.

  12. I have only just downloaded this tool just a few seconds ago after reading the article about it from Forbes.com

I already see it’s value and thank you very much for not charger us for it!

Im sure your Karma will come back to you infinite times over.

I will be passing this along to my business team who use the internet in their daily business activites as well.

I have always wanted a little tracker that could help really see exactly where my time goes. Thank You!

Best of Wishes for you and your team!!
